New Delhi. The government has now clarified the situation regarding the uncertainty among farmers regarding the next installment of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Under this scheme, a total assistance of Rs 6,000 is given to eligible farmers in a year, which is sent directly to their bank accounts in three installments. Till now 21 installments of the scheme have been released, while crores of farmers across the country are waiting for the 22nd installment.

What was the answer given in Rajya Sabha regarding Farmer ID?

Meanwhile, there was increased concern among farmers regarding Farmer ID and whether the next amount of Rs 2,000 can be withheld without it. Answering this question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said that as of now Farmer ID has not been made mandatory for all farmers.

What is the arrangement for old beneficiaries?

He said that in the 14 states where the Farmer ID system has been implemented, it has been made mandatory for new farmers at the time of registration. But in states where this process has not started yet, farmers already taking advantage of the scheme will not be excluded due to not having a Farmer ID. After this clarification from the government, the old beneficiaries have gotten relief for the time being.

What advice was given to the farmers?

The government has also made it clear that in the states where Farmer ID has been implemented, there may be a ban on the next installment without the ID. In such cases, the name of the farmer goes under investigation, and the payment may get stuck. Therefore, farmers of those states have been advised to register on time.

What is the purpose of implementing Farmer ID?

The government's objective behind implementing Farmer ID has been said to be to correctly identify the beneficiaries. Through this, the information about the farmer's land, Aadhaar, and bank account is linked in a single system. This helps in removing fake beneficiaries, and the assistance amount reaches the genuine farmers directly. The government has indicated that in the future the same ID will be used in other agricultural schemes also.

Who can apply for a Farmer ID?

Only those farmers in whose name agricultural land is registered can apply for a Farmer ID. Small and marginal farmers also come under its purview. For application, an Aadhar card, land-related documents, bank account information, and an active mobile number are required. Additional documents may also be asked for in some states.

By when will the Farmer ID system be implemented across the country?

Farmer ID registration is being done online in most of the states. Farmers can fill in the details by visiting the state agriculture portal, where the ID is issued after Aadhaar-based verification. The government says that the Farmer ID system will be gradually implemented in the entire country. In such a situation, in the states where this process has started, farmers have been advised to register without any delay so that the benefit of any installment or scheme does not get stuck in the future.
